How St. Pauls Family was Founded
In 1983, St. Paul’s Family was founded by Mrs. Jairus Jolly Ndema who came together with a small group of devout Catholics to pray the Rosary and study the Bible. The group gathered at various locations, including the homes of members including that of Justice Polycarp Nyamuconco (RIP) in Nakasero – Kampala. As the group grew, the need for a permanent gathering place arose.
Under the guidance of Bishop Matthias Ssekamanya, the Family found its headquarters at St. Matia Mulumba Parish in Old Kampala. Recognized as an association of Christian believers within the Roman Catholic Church in 1990, St. Paul’s Family received permissions to promote devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1991, the then Arch Bishop of Mbarara Archdocese, Paul K. Bakyenga granted permission for the Family to spread this devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Mbarara Archdiocese, and a similar permission was granted by His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese. These two archdioceses became the foundation for our branches.
